Analytics measurement and metrics
Web analytics setup: a measurement plan that lasts
Plan analytics around business questions, essential events and quality checks.
Good analytics setup starts by deciding what you need to know and ends with evidence that events arrive as intended. Installing a tracker is only one part of that work.
Translate goals into observable questions
List the decisions your team makes each month and the evidence that would change them. Choose a short set of outcomes and supporting events. Define each event in ordinary language, including when it fires, what properties are necessary and what must never be collected.
Put it into practice

Try Alexander freeImplement the smallest useful event set
Start with pageviews and a few meaningful actions such as signup completion, qualified enquiry and purchase. Keep names stable and avoid capturing free-text fields, credentials or personal details. Use a consistent site or property identity and document any cross-domain paths that affect attribution.
Validate and maintain the system
Test events in a staging or controlled environment, then verify production counts against source systems. Check duplicate firing, consent behaviour, bot filtering and important browser/device paths. Review definitions when the product changes, and annotate deployments that affect reporting.
