Refactor the pages that earn, not the ones that are easy

OpenAI's terminal agent, reading your traffic while it edits. One MCP server, five read-only tools, and a key that opens exactly one site.

  • TransportStreamable HTTP
  • AccessRead only, always
  • ScopeOne site per key
Long refactors where you want to know if the page you touched is the one that earns.
Why Codex
How to connect

Three steps, and Codex can read your site

A key is issued per site and cannot be talked into reading another one, so handing one to an agent hands it exactly what you meant.

  1. Issue a site key

In Alexander: Settings, Integrations, MCP server. Keys look like alx_ and a fresh one is shown once, so paste it straight into the config below.

    alx_live_7f2c…

  2. In ~/.codex/config.toml, add the server

    Paste this into ~/.codex/config.toml.

    ~/.codex/config.toml
    [mcp_servers.alexander]
    url = "https://mcp.alxndr.ai/mcp"
    bearer_token_env_var = "ALEXANDER_KEY"

Codex reads TOML, and takes the key from the environment rather than the file: export ALEXANDER_KEY before you start it.

  3. Ask it something you already know

The fastest way to tell a working connection from a confident guess is to ask for a number you can check.

    ask Codex
Before I touch this template, what depends on it?
What you can ask

Questions, not queries

Type it the way you would say it. Codex picks the tool, Alexander returns the rows, and the answer arrives with the numbers in it.

get_pages· Pages

It renders /pricing and /pricing/teams: 2,777 and 412 views, €3,457 between them last month.

Rank the routes by revenue so I can start at the top.

get_pages· Pages

/pricing €3,457, /checkout €2,904, /docs €118, and eleven routes at zero.

Did anything regress after the deploy?

get_overview· Headline numbers

Bounce rate on /pricing moved 41% to 44% and the funnel's first step is down 6%. Nothing else changed.

Example answers, shaped exactly as the tools return them, on a demo shop rather than a real customer's books.

The surface

Five tools. That is the whole of it.

Every client on this site reaches the same five, and not one of them can write. There is no sixth tool, no settings tool and no way to reach a site the key was not issued for.

Headline numbers

get_overview

Visitors, pageviews, revenue, conversions, bounce rate and who is on the site this second.

Sources

get_sources

Where visitors came from, ranked by revenue per visitor rather than by volume.

Pages

get_pages

The most viewed pages, each with the revenue of the sessions that saw it.

Funnel

get_funnel

Every step with the drop-off to the next, so the leak has a name.

Insights

get_insights

The written findings: what changed, the evidence, the suggested action, a confidence score.

Add the tracker, issue a key for the site, paste it where the config goes. The free plan covers 10,000 events a month and asks for no card.
