Conversion and website optimisation
Use website analytics to improve navigation
Find confusing menus and broken paths without adding navigation based on guesswork.
Navigation is successful when people can find the next relevant place without having to understand your organisation chart. Analytics can highlight paths where the structure may be getting in the way.
Look for evidence of searching and backtracking
Review common page sequences, exits from key navigation destinations and internal search refinements if measured. Repeated jumps between categories can indicate unclear labels. Ask support and sales teams which destinations visitors routinely struggle to find.

Try Alexander freePrioritise by task and reach
Identify high-value tasks and pages people need to reach. A deeply buried legal detail is not automatically as important as product setup or pricing. Use clear, audience language for labels and group related topics around visitor needs.
Validate through task completion
Test the revised menu with people who did not design it and give them realistic tasks. After release, compare path completion and relevant outcomes, with device differences in view. Fewer page transitions can be an improvement if people arrive at the right destination sooner.
