How to find and fix funnel drop-off
Prioritise funnel leaks by visitor intent, step friction and likely business impact.
Drop-off names the point where fewer visitors continue. It does not tell you whether the step is confusing, correctly disqualifying people or incorrectly measured.
Verify the step before diagnosing it
Check that the event fires once, on the intended action, across browsers and devices. Make sure the funnel uses a consistent identity and time window. A button click is not the same as a server-confirmed account or payment. If a success event is missing on one route, the report will create an artificial leak.

Try Alexander freeRank the leaks that matter
A large percentage loss on a low-intent step may matter less than a modest loss immediately before purchase. Consider qualified entrants, absolute number lost and the value of completion. Break down by source or device only when the segment has enough volume to support a useful comparison.
Investigate the cause directly
Replay the journey manually, inspect field-level errors and ask recent customers where they hesitated. Look for surprise costs, requests for information too early, slow transitions or unclear privacy expectations. Change the strongest suspected cause, then check both the next-step rate and the final outcome. Do not celebrate a local improvement that sends poor-fit visitors to sales.
